Sempervivum arachnoideum, native to mountainous areas of Europe, forms a tiny rosette to 1" in diameter with a "cobweb" of white hairs. Clusters prolifically to form mounds. Pink star-shaped flowers. Considered cold hardy to zone 5. Not only very cold hardy, but also heat tolerant. Best form in bright light and cool temperatures. Requires porous soil with adequate drainage. Filtered light with ample airflow. Prefers shade during summer dormancy. Water thoroughly when soil is dry to the touch. Although very cold tolerant, best to provide frost protection to prevent possible scarring.
