DESCRIPTION
The Instagram-ready “it plant” spotlight has shone brightly on Monstera deliciosa and one look at the plant shows why. Part of the arum family, this evergreen tropical vine native to Mexico and Central America is well-known for its distinctive massive heart-shaped leaves with natural holes (fenestrations) and deep lobes, giving it loads of eye-catching personality and an instant statement plant appearance. These appear as the plant develops. The leaf holes eventually become open, progressing toward the edges as leaves mature, explaining one of the plant’s common names: split-leaf philodendron. Monstera deliciosa is an excellent focal specimen in any room and can be trained to climb or trail over a bookshelf or windowsill. It can grow up to 10 feet tall indoors, adding a lush, tropical feel to any space, putting on 1-2 feet a year.

This plant is not only visually appealing but also easy to care for, making it a popular choice for both novice and experienced plant owners. It prefers bright to medium, indirect light and should be watered when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. As a tropical plant, it thrives in high humidity and temperatures between 60-75°F. Keep in a humid environment or use a humidifier or pebble tray to increase humidity. Feed with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
