Native to Mexico, forms stems that are globular at first, later becoming columnar to 12" in height and 4" in diameter. Spines vary in color from yellow to orange or red. Magenta flowers appear in late spring, summer, and again in autumn. Protect from frost. Provide bright light/sun; hardy to 32F. Water thoroughly when soil is dry.
